When we were in Adelaide recently, we didn’t have access to the internet. We were not prepared to pay the exorbitant internet rates charged by hotels or the exorbitant international data rates charged by New Zealand mobile telecommunication companies, so internetless we chose to be.
So one evening we went out with our trusty hotel map and the printout of a previous blog post to find a recommended gluten free friendly restaurant. We had gone through the list of recommended places to eat and decided to try Mesa Lunga, which is a Spanish Tapa restaurant.
So on and on we walked (it was quite a way from our hotel and we almost gave up) until we came to a place with a sign saying Mesa Lunga. I looked in and was quite disappointed. It looked like a bar and I wanted a restaurant. I didn’t want to sit in a noisy (and quite dark) bar. But Haitch and I looked at each other and decided to walk in. It was recommended after all, so must be worth having a look. But no, we quickly walked out. Too dark and too barry. So we decided to walk just a little further down the road before we turned back.
Thank goodness we did. Because there right beside Mesa Lunga Sangria bar was the restaurant. Right on the corner, just as Tina had said. And yes they had a table.
And yes, the waiter knew what was gluten free on the menu and what wasn’t and why. And the food was delicious. Thank you Tina for your recommendation.
And the most entertaining part of the night was the couple seated very close to us. This restaurant has long narrow shared tables but they have plants and things between you to give you visible privacy but unfortunately plants don’t provide audio privacy. I know you are not supposed to listen to the fellow guests in a restaurant (and definitely not supposed to admit you have done so) but this time Haitch and I just couldn’t help it.
First date. Both dressed to kill. Both nervous. He going over the top to make an impression and to be interesting. She quite a bit younger. She asked if he was married! He then spoke for far too long about his ex wife and then about his kids. She glazed over. I’m picking there won’t be a second date.
Oh no! Didn’t you just want to lean over and shush him
Poor things!
Tapas are great aren’t they? I love those flavours.
We were actually quite entertained. And yes, tapas are great.
I LOVE watching people who are on awkward dates!! It’s hilarious. And glad the tapas were nice.
